1.0 INTRODUCTION
The goal of this procedure is to perform Squeak & Rattle noise evaluation of Seats (1st,
2nd, and 3rd row) during the DV/PV testing phase for Cars and Trucks by using subjective listening and objective time varying N10 loudness measurements in sones.
1.1 COMMONALITY. The test may be performed at Ford Motor Company test facilities or at
suppliers using equivalent equipment and sound measurement tools. For the objective
measurements Head Acoustics' Artemis system, MTS I-DEAS, or Bruel & Kjaer's Sound
Quality type 7698 are recommended.
1.2 Proposed revisions to this procedure must be submitted per FAP03-179.
2.0 INSTRUMENTATION
2.1 The equipment listed in Table 1,or equivalent, is needed to perform the sound recording
portion of this test.
2.2 All test measurement equipment must be calibrated and maintained per FAP03-015, Control,
Calibration, and Maintenance of Measurement and Test Equipment.

2.4 All instruments must be calibrated within twelve months of the test with reference standards
calibrated on 12 month intervals, using primary standards directly traceable to the NIST.

without loss of accuracy.
2.6 Dynamic analyzer for vibration and sound measurement analysis and recording.
Functions must include:
•300 Hz high-pass filter
•N10 percentile loudness analysis
•Time capture
•Engineering unit scaling
•Disc or electronic storage
•Graphic output capability.
2.7 A sound pressure measurement system with a minimum upper frequency limit of 10 kHz.
a. ANSI S.1.4, Type 1 sound level meter or microphone with AC signal output, over- range
indication, linear or A weighted measurement modes, and adjustable center frequency 1/3
octave filter.

Vibration and sound measurement analysis equipment may have the following options: • 1/3 and 1 octave band analysis • Peak channel hold • Stable average • Transfer function (FRF) • Power spectral density (PSD)
• N2 and N5 percentile loudness analysis
• Sound intensity measurement and analysis – used to locate and quantify noise emissions.

PREFERRED SYSTEM / ALTERNATIVES
The equipment preferred by Ford Motor Company for this test is the Head Acoustics' Artemis
system, MTS I-DEAS, or Bruel & Kjaer's Sound Quality type 7698. 2.10
All test measurement equipment must be calibrated and maintained per FAP03-015, Control, Calibration, and Maintenance of Measurement and Test Equipment. 3.0 EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES 3.1
TEST CHAMBER
An enclosed room to achieve the following acoustic conditions, is required. The chamber interior must:
3.1.1 Be large enough to contain the fixture, seats, and acoustic materials, and allow human
observation and sound measurements from all directions around the seats.
3.1.2 The background noise level, including all fixturing but no test parts, while the vibration system
is running, shall not exceed an N10 percentile loudness of 2.0 sones over a 1 minute time
interval when measured at a point 250 mm above the center of the table while running a vehicle drive file (Figure 2) and no seat samples are attached. Operator must be capable of conducting noise evaluations and have "normal" hearing function. 3.1.3
Provide required temperature (capable of -20 deg F to 120 deg F) and humidity control. 3.2
VIBRATION SYSTEM
3.2.1 A minimum 3 degree of freedom (DoF) electro-dynamic shaker table, (Figure 1) capable of
producing 0.75 g's from frequencies of 5 Hz to 100 Hz, with a control system capable of reproducing sine, random, and time based vibration files.

3.2.2 A means of measuring seat back movement.
3.2.3 Include devices to restrain cross-axial motion of the test fixture in each axis (not exceed 20% of
the axial level at the center of the fixture/exciter interface). Simultaneous, multiaxial (6 DoF) motion and control is not required. 3.3
VIBRATION CONTROL EQUIPMENT (and/or Time History Reproduction)
As required to maintain the random and sinusoidal vibration levels at the specified points on the sample(s). The system must provide: 3.3.1 Graphic output capability to document test levels.
3.3.2 For random vibration, control with sufficient dynamic range to overcome poor transmissibility
in the test fixture and meet the specified levels of the vibration profiles, Figure 2. 3.4
FIXTURES
3.4.1 Microphone fixture for sound measurements.
3.4.2 Component fixture simulating actual vehicle installation, including hardware and brackets and
adequate support of any necessary surrounding interior components. The fixture must:
• Have transmissibility (therefore, stiffness) to allow for control of the vibration level at all points where the sample mounting bracket is attached to the vibration fixture. • Emit no noise that might interfere with sound measurement. • Allow access for sound measurements on all sample surfaces.
It is recommended that the vibrator mounting fixture and shaker head have a natural frequency greater than 120 Hz.
4.0 SAMPLE PREPARATION 4.1
SYSTEM CALIBRATION
Prior to each test, calibrate microphones, signal conditioners, and sound analysis equipment AS A COMPLETE SYSTEM using a reference standard sound source (e.g., piston-phone). 4.2
TEST SETUP
4.2.1 Vibration Amplitude and Squeak & Rattle Tests:
4.2.1.1 Mount the production intent, fully trimmed seat assembly in its design position to the shaker
table. If the rear seats have body mounted strikers or latches, they must be mounted to the fixture such that they simulate the vehicle's local stiffness. 4.2.1.2 Where applicable, position the seat back in normal design position. If the seat has manual
tracks, position the seat full forward. If power, adjust to 6 mm rearward of the forward most stop. If there is a vertical adjustment, it should be at the midpoint of it's travel. Ensure that all seat back, track, and folding latches are locked.
3.2.2 测试座椅后背运动的方式。
