After the reform and opening up to the outside world, the planned-economy dominationationin the auto industry was gradually breaking down: in 1983, the government allocated 10% of the autos from the state quota to the automakers for self-marketing, and since then the self- marketing proportion had kept increasing uear by year.
In the 1990s, China’s auto market entered a period of rapid expansion. As a result, the country’s annual auto output surpassed 1 million, reaching 1,061,700 units in 1992.

The J6 model, a newly-launched 6th-generation Jiefang heavy-duty truck produced by the No1 Auto Plant , has just won the special-class Award of China Auto Industry for Advancement of Science & Technology. Its development, which started in 2000, and lasted for 8years, is the automaker’s major project in its 11th Five-Year-Plan for the new development and technological upgrading of commercial vehicles. Developed independently by the Plant, the J6 model is up to the highest level in China, and equal to the advanced standards in the world. A Jiefang model was the first automobile ever made
in the People’s Republic of China, and was also the country’s 10 millionth auto ever manufactured annually, a seemingly coincidental happening that demonstrates the strong vitality and adherence to the innovation-oriented development of China’s auto industry.
